The End Times are coming!

Image
Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Hey there, it's Brandon here talking about another game which I find quite fun to play. It's called Warhammer: Vermintide 2 and it is a cooperative hack and slash first person game. It is similar to Left For Dead in that the player must cooperate with his teammates against a massive horde of enemies. This game is a sequel to Warhammer: Vermintide (The End Times), and in this sequel it adds new enemies as well and new loot systems. The game is considerably better than the prequel and I find it just great fun to carve through hundreds of rats like a hot knife through butter. The game may seem like a simple hack and slash game at first, which it pretty much is in order to allow new players to get into the swing of things. Later on in the game when the players are looking for a more challenging experience and better loot, things become more tactical as players must work as a team and do specific jobs such as tanking, sniping and crowd control. RNG: The randomness in your games

Image
RNG refers to the Random Number Generator, essentially where the games roll a set of die and see what you happen to you in an instance. RNG in games isn’t something new, with even older games like the original Dragon Quest having RNG to determine the drops you get from winning the fights and the fights themselves with instances such as damage and sometimes what do you fight.   Its everywhere today being the core of much frustration when it goes your way and anger when It goes against you but also in the same vein sometimes that leads to magic moments when the numbers go in your favour. Some games today have core gameplay mechanics locked behind some sort of RNG most notably the Roguelike where many elements of the game are randomly generated each time you start a new game ensuring a newish experience every time you play.   I’m personally don’t mind some RNG in my games and it keeps the encounters fresh and exciting and the chance to get rare drops can sometimes lead to

When it All Goes Wrong – TEAM CHAT

Everyone took on their roles and did their best, but for whatever reason, it’s all fallen apart. You may have even played really well. It’s not so important, it happens to the best of us. What is important however, is what comes next.   I know how frustrating it can be. How annoyed it can make you when you’ve played really well and still failed, whether that’s because your teammates didn’t follow through on plans, or just didn’t have the skill to push the team to victory. In my experience, there’s only one good option for what to do next. Especially if you’re still in-game and have more rounds to play or objectives to earn, that option is to stay positive. I don’t mean unrealistically, unrelentingly positive. I just mean at least not negative. You could calmly give some advice, but getting angry or going off at your teammates won’t help. That just lea

Mods and Modifications: A new game from a old.

Image
Allan here having a more casual discussion on gaming today primarily about the new mutation games mode in DOTA 2 coming with the new battle pass. It is essentially a game mode with new effects and modifiers that change the base game, for example, we have seen people exploding when they die or allowing for people to resurrect teammates on the spot.   The idea of modifiers is hardly new with older games such as big head mode from Golden Eye on the N64 to skulls in the Halo Series. Modifiers in a game provide players with a means to customise their games to their own liking making it harder for those seeking a challenge or having some fun modifiers that allow for some fun group play. All of these add to the replay value of the game allowing for a single game to be played throughout.   However, as gaming develops it appears that modifiers created by the game developers have started to die out leading to mods to fill in the gaps.   The age of mods leads to exciting creations a

Why do Gamers Want to Appear Offline?

Image
More and more people are playing games now than ever before. This is not surprising since games as an industry has grown in revenue by 10.7% since last year. However this also means that more and more gamers are playing games on services such as Steam, Battle.net, Uplay, Playstation, etc. There has been a rise in interest for gamers to not show that they're online to their friends. Take the above screenshot from Battle.net. The Appear Offline functionality of the app wasn't introduced until late last year due to popular demand from gamers, though it still doesn't hide you from your guild members. Why do people not want to show their friends that they're online and playing a video game? They might want to hide from their friends that they're playing a game when they are supposed to be doing work. They might want to hide the fact that they're playing the game with other people and don't want to play with another friend of theirs. Or maybe they want

Review of Touhou 15.5 Antinomy of Flowers

Image
Hey guys, this is Ryan and I'm going to be reviewing a game I have been playing recently. Touhou 15.5 Antinomy of Common Flowers is the 6th Touhou 2D fighter game for the PC and the third aerial based 2D fighter in the series. This game has a heavy focus on spacing and projectiles just like two of its predecessors: Touhou 13.5 Hopeless masquerade and Touhou 14.5 Urban Legend in Limbo. The controls in this game are simple, with 3 different attack buttons: melee, special and ranged, a switch button (will get to this point soon) and a dash/shield button. There are no complex inputs and instead, are based on what direction you are facing and which of the attack buttons you pressed. You also have 3 other attacks: spell cards (performed by pressing special and ranged at the same time), final words (performed by pressing switch and special at the same time) and occult specials (performed by pressing melee and ranged at the same time). Because of this, there is a low entry floor that t

If they aren’t letting you know when they need help, or when they lose control of a position they are meant to have, it can be one of the worst flaws in a team. Suddenly other players on the team are cut off or left in compromised spots with very little chance of making it out.                           I’m not just pretending it’s just others either. I find myself doing it all the time as well. I’ll lose a position, and in the moment I’ll forget to let my teammates know. It’s not really a natural thing to be constantly communicating what you’re seeing, but I think it’s definitely worth trying so that the whole team has all of the relevant information to make decisions and act in unison.
